Description

This book uncovers implicit bias and Islamophobia in historical narratives in U.S. education and how to combat these.
Jameel Haque argues that there is anti-Muslim racism inherent in world and US history narratives in educational materials and texts used in the United States. He analyzes examples of this. He argues that this bias is both the reflection of contemporary prejudice within the US and a reflection of the origin of such narratives stemming from the remnants of the Western Civilization narrative, which, at its core, was anti-Muslim. Haque further provides ways to mitigate and work around these flaws within historical narratives to combat Islamophobia and racism.
