Gavin Williams is Lecturer in Music at King’s College London, UK. His publications include Hearing the Crimean War: Wartime Sound and the Unmaking of Sense (2019), which won the Royal Musical Association’s prize for Outstanding Edited Volume, and Format Friction: Perspectives on the Shellac Disc, which will be published in July 2024. His research has appeared in 19th-Century Music, Cambridge Opera Journal, and the Journal of the American Musicological Society.
