Nigel Hatton is assistant professor of literature at the University of California. He has written: Kierkegaard X: Existentialism, Blackness and Freedom in 19th- and 20th-Century Literature and Culture. This is a book that offers a new interpretation of existentialist thought through Kierkegaard’s work, primarily his Upbuilding Discourses in Various Spirits, in the context of Danish participation in the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
