Brian J. Phillips is a Reader in the Department of Government at the University of Essex. He researches and teaches about terrorism, armed conflict, and crime, often from an organizational perspective. His co-authored book Insurgent Terrorism: Intergroup Relationships and the Killing of Civilians was published in 2022. He is currently an Associate Editor of Terrorism and Political Violence, and he previously was an Associate Editor of International Studies Quarterly.
