Biography

Judah Armani is a partner at The Royal College of Art, UK where he heads up the Social Impact Studio within the Service Design M.A. programme. He is an adjunct professor of Service Design at the Musashino Art College in Tokyo, Japan, a senior researcher at Central St Martin’s ‘Design Against Crime Team’, and a visiting fellow at the Rhode Island School of Design’s strategic studio; The Center for Complexity in Providence, USA. Judah is also a visiting lecturer at Elisava school of design in Barcelona, Spain and Köln international school of design in Cologne, Germany. Judah is the founder of Public Service Design Practice, co-creating award winning initiatives that have been providing social impact and change for decades. Judah is the first Service Designer in residence at both InnovationRCA and Epic Records, who are part of the Sony Music Group UK. He lives in Brighton and is a non executive director for the internationally acclaimed Brighton Festival where he oversees inclusivity and diversity for England’s biggest arts festival. In 2017 Judah launched ‘InHouse Records’ a multi award winning, rehabilitative, service, operating in multiple UK & USA prisons and continuing out of prison too, significantly reducing recidivism with a re- offending rate of less than 1%. In 2020 Judah launched the award winning ‘Aux Magazine’ the first Prison Magazine written by and for prisoners, and in 2021 he launched the multi-award winning Lucky13’s, a neurodiverse co-created curriculum that can be curated by prisoners on a weekly basis. Judah has been recognised as being in the Top 20 UK Social Entrepreneurs for 2019 & 2020 by The Big Issue. In 2021 Judah was awarded the highly coveted Sir Misha Black Award for innovation in Design Education and in 2023 was presented with the Outstanding Service Award by the Governor of Connecticut for his work in correctional facilities across the state of Connecticut, USA. His work has been celebrated in both national and international press, and his design practice has been B Corp certified for over a decade and has been awarded the B Corp Certification for Top 5% in the world for social impact in 2020 and 2022.
