Description
Embrace the joy of living a single and childfree life
New research shows that unmarried and childfree women are statistically the happiest demographic in society, and 1 in 5 adults today are choosing to be childfree. So why does being single still come with such stigma attached? Lucy Meggeson believes it's time to level the playing field and ask the very important question: what the hell is going on?
Shiny Happy Singles is an investigation of sorts, based on Lucy's hypothesis that posits the following: being single is an equally valid life path as any other, equal in the good bits and equal in the bad. Being single and not having children is, quite simply, different. It lends itself to different highs and different lows, different joys and different sorrows. It is not a lesser path, but the world still believes that it is.
Each chapter dives into a different theme, including finance, travel, joy and fulfilment, sex, career, money, autonomy and home. Lucy compares and contrasts each theme through her conversations with women, as well as using broader research into what it means to be a single woman, both now and throughout history.
Shiny Happy Singles is an inspiring and empowering call for single and childfree women to make the most of their life and release any feelings of shame and lack. Whatever path you choose, you are not alone and you have everything you need within you to live a fabulous life.

Lucy's work is for anyone on the verge of their authenticity as a happy, thriving single person, but who may also need a bit more support and community to help soothe any feelings of shame or fear. She's a brilliant source of positive energy for singles and why shouldn't we have exactly that? I'll read and listen to her work, always.

Thank you to Lucy for giving the modern single woman the space to be heard for who she really is, and not who society and the press think she is – or should be.

This delightful, insightful, and totally unapologetic take on the lives of childfree single women made a shiny happy reader out of me. Lucy Meggeson has so much to bring to this book – her experiences as a leading podcaster on the topic, her interviews with single childfree women, her understanding of the relevant research and contemporary context of childfree singlehood, and her own experiences, humor, and wisdom. Here's to her and all the fortunate readers who discover this gem.
